    2026 Feral Mountain News….

It’s mid-February and we are ready to begin up-potting the snapdragon seedlings! This is one of eight trays of mass planted seedlings that were started in January 2026 and are ready for their own pots. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and begin the season.

January 2026 – Exciting News! We have huge plans for the year – starting with the expansion of the Feral Mountain Fruit Orchard! After the bountiful harvest last year we are gearing up to produce even more high quality locally grown fruit!

In mid-December, it is time to look back at the year in order to start planning for the next year. From starting the first seeds in January, to prepping the farm plots in early spring to midsummer harvests, fall re-planting and winter foraging, there is always something to do on the Farm.

One of the highlights (and biggest jobs) of the year was moving the main flower plot to a new growing location – safe from horses now, inside a fenced area! This move ensured there would be bouquets of Dahlias, Roses, Zinnias, Snapdragons, Cosmos, Sweet Peas and Yarrow to brighten summer time dinner tables. Toward the end of a long beautiful fall season, we had our first large apple harvest, and we planted out a wheelbarrow full of fancy daffodils to help kickoff future growing seasons. As a season finale, the Northern Lights put on a spectacular show at the Farm!

Now in December, we forage the woodlands for mixed evergreens to bring some winter cheer indoors. This is also the time we check over our seed stockpile, order new varieties and dream about the flowers that we will grow in 2026. I can hardly wait to begin starting my seeds in a couple of weeks!

    2023 Farm News:

Once again, the season got busy and before I knew it, my plans to post regular news updates fell to the wayside. 2023 was a formative year, and a very sad year. After many years of rolling my eyes to my Dad’s suggestions to grow flowers to sell to people, I officially made the plunge this year. Carefully planning the crops for the bouquets I grew and (finally) registered my business with the State…. However, I decided I would wait until next year to tell my Dad that I took his advice. After all, I wanted my farm to be more established and “successful” before I told him. Unfortunately, right before Thanksgiving, my Dad unexpectedly died… He was always my biggest supporter and would have loved to know he planted the seed that became Feral Mountain Farm…

    2022 Farm Happenings:

2022 was an amazing growing season! The extra long season was inspiring! Here are some of my favorite pics from the season…

This year I started crafting unique flower bouquets! I planted most of the flowers with bouquets in mind, and started to learn how to arrange cheery bouquets to gift to my family and friends. Giving people an unexpected bundle of blooms always brightens your day, and doing so inspired me to dive into growing cut flowers.

    2021 Farm News:

    Year of the Fruit Trees!

Early Spring 2021 we planted our first batch of fruit trees – Gala & Honeycrisp Apples! With any luck, we will have reliable crops of apples in a couple of years.

2021 was a good year for Zinnias and Glads. We started overwintering gladiola corms and found it to be worthwhile for us.

Cheery Glads and the last Dahlia of the season!

2020 – the establishment of Feral Mountain Farm!

Not everything was doom and gloom this year, as we bought our farm in early Spring! It was pretty rough around the edges and came with a sordid past that we would have to work to overcome. We had some really good times working on cleaning up the place while the world was in quarantine. I had grown up a short ways up the road from here so I instantly felt at home and could see through the rubble to the beautiful farm that it would one day be. I had dreams of having a roadside stand selling veggies but with the unique location of this farm that dream had to grow into something else…

This was a year of tearing down the remnants of the past to make way for something beautiful!

By the end of the year, we had a blank slate to work with…Let the planning begin!
