I fully credit my Grandma with getting me interested in growing plants and gardening – she peer pressured me into growing a tomato plant nearly two decades ago. Never thought it would grow into my life’s passion! Turns out, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – as the majority of my family has been farming & gardening for generations. Here is a tribute to my family of farmers…

My Maternal Grandma’s family sold Indian Runner Duck Eggs, Honey, and Cream when she was growing up in Kansas during the Great Depression.
My Grandma was not a fan of the ducks. She said they were messy & gross. However, her “duck tails” got me interested in keeping Indian Runner Ducks, and I totally love them, despite their mess!!
My Grandpa also grew up on a farm in Kansas, but left the farm life when he joined the Service during WW2. After he married my Grandma, they both tended a large and productive vegetable garden for the remainder of their years. I have many fond memories picking strawberries from their huge strawberry patch, deadheading flowers and raking leaves.

My Paternal Grandparents also grew up farming. After they married, my grandmother maintained a massive garden that one would describe as a “botanic garden and farm combined.” She also grew flowers to make bouquets!

This is my Great-Great Grandfather farming with his work horses, Fannie and Bill. My Dad had many stories about helping out on the family farm when he was a kid. He drove the hay truck and even raised a cow he named Bruiser.
